Me, in all my guises |
I went to Lymm High School where I was largely ignored or mistaken for my brother. After 7 years propping up their league table results and 5 years playing week in week out for the second XV, hall colours were awarded to Steven Lambert. As I collected 'my' award I was congratulated by my head of year with
"I've no idea who you are, but well done anyway."
I studied chemistry at the University of St Andrews. I went to St Andrews essentially as I knew no-one there and it would force me to be more outgoing. St Andrews is a bit of a strange place. It lives in its own bubble where you hear little of the outside world. With roughly a third of the population made up of students you see someone you know pretty much any time you step outside. I devoted my second year to ultimate frisbee. I should have devoted the first year to it too.
Whilst on industrial placement I was made redundant from a job in environmental chemistry within the electrochemical industry. I then finished the summer working on fuel cells, mainly as a data-monkey. After uni I worked in the oil industry developing novel anti-wear and anti-friction additives for motor engine lubricants. When the time came to move on from that I went into the space industry to work on the development of batteries for satellites. After tons of analysis and spreadsheets and tables and JISs and NCRs, it's time to move on again. This time though, why continue turning the handle?
Survival is getting me down. It is time to discover life.
